This event aimed to give users a forum in which to discuss current hot topics across the PeopleSoft product suite and we held sessions which touched on areas such as Fluid, PeopleTools, PeopleSoft Cloud Technology and specifically Selective Adoption.

Selective Adoption - The Story So Far...

If you don't know your PUMs from your PIs and what Selective Adoption means when you get to PeopleSoft 9.2 Applications, then this session recapped the glossary and explained what the Selective Adoption story is so far.

What's New in 8.55 & 8.56

PeopleSoft Update Manager is part of the PeopleTools framework and new and useful features are being added with every new release. In this session we explored some of the enhancements in PeopleTools 8.55 that can help manage updates and customisations and help to manage your PUM Images.  We also looked at what might be coming in PeopleTools 8.56.

PeopleTools Tips & Techniques

Maximize the efficiency and productivity of your PeopleSoft applications from Oracle using the proven methods and best practices. In this session, Jim Marion laid out the benefits of each tactic along with implementation considerations, programming instructions, and reusable code samples. Jim demonstrated how to construct powerful iScripts, build custom UIs, work with Java and Ajax, and integrate the latest Web 2.0 features. Test-driven development, application security, performance tuning, and debugging were also covered.

Jim shared interesting, thought provoking PeopleTools tips to help Oracle customers make the most of their PeopleSoft development investment. In this session attendees learnt tips and techniques to help you write better PeopleCode, create a better user experience, and extend PeopleSoft applications without modifying delivered definitions.


Selective Adoption - Business Process Alignment

Hays upgraded to PeopleSoft 9.2 in January 2015. Since then we only used Selective Adoption to keep Global Payroll up to date and to apply the odd defect fix. However, that approach has no longevity – dependencies within Images will get ever more complex, features will become more difficult to adopt and our code line will get more out of date. Quite simply the business will not realise the benefit of what PeopleSoft delivers. So we needed an innovative approach that would ensure that our complex PeopleSoft estate is kept up to date and change the engagement model with our business stakeholders to drive change that would add real business value.

Our presentation showed how we addressed the resourcing and business engagement challenges:

  • How we convinced the business that a new continuous delivery model was right for Hays
  • How we are evolving the roles within both IT and the business to ensure drive business value
  • The methodology that we have adopted to drive business engagement and sponsorship of the right business change
  • How are development methodologies have changed to drive greater agility
  • How we will implement change in a way that the business is comfortable with

There is no one right way of adopting Selective Adoption, but getting the business onside and engaged was key to our success.

This session was a final round up of the day and a summary of what the next steps will be for an organissation looking at Selective Adoption.
