April 2017 - UKOUG PeopleSoft Roadshow and the PeopleSoft Executive Dinner
Two great events took place at the end of April - the UKOUG PeopleSoft Roadshow and the annual Cedar PeopleSoft Executive Dinner. Marc Weintraub and Julie Alonso spoke at both events, so we've combined the highlights into a single post:
Obviously Selective Adoption, Fluid, Test Framework and Oracle Cloud featured heavily, but one new piece of information Julie shared was the new Onboarding module that is coming as part of Core HR. It's exciting that the PeopleTools team is able to build functionality like this within the existing licence fee.
Continuing Improvement and Customer Numbers
Marc shared that there are still 1,100 people working on PeopleSoft worldwide, so the product is far from stagnating. There are still 5,000+ customers using PeopleSoft and the retention rate is above 95%. It is still the world's most popular HR system and the PeopleSoft customer numbers are still higher than Fusion, SuccessFactors and Workday combined.
Marc also debated the need for a 9.3 release. Although customers keep asking for one, there is a strong desire not to return to the 'old way' of releasing content. He said (paraphrasing slightly) "we've delivered v9.3 and v9.4 in terms of the amount of content and features provided, but with Selective Adoption you've had it sooner, faster and better".
Marc also shared that some customers who have fully embraced Selective Adoption are finding that they have cost savings of 50-70%.
Support / End of Life Date
Marc also shared that Oracle had recently moved the current end of Premier Support from 2024 to 2027 (where Extended Support previously ended). This means that we'll continue to get legislative/regulatory/tax updates through to 2027 as a minimum. Marc also stressed that 2027 is not the 'end of the line' for PeopleSoft. This is just the current end-of-support date and will likely move out as we get closer. There are no plans to 'end of life' PeopleSoft.
A strong turnout for the UKOUG PeopleSoft Roadshow
